On 8th August, we had the fourth day in the program. I woke up at 6:50. At the study group, we discussed “High school students should go to cram schools.” I thought that our members explained about it clearly and it was amazing. It was difficult to make sentences in a short time, but it was fun. We went to the dining hall to have breakfast. I ate colorful cereals. They were delicious. The potatoes that my roommate was eating seemed delicious. I thought I would eat ones tomorrow. In the lesson, I learned about leadership and confidence. I do not know many words, but I enjoyed asking our student leaders. Our teacher, Patrick, was very friendly and it was easy for me to understand his explanation. I have never learned the things like the content of the lessons, so I felt it fresh. During the lunch time, I went to a bookstore with my friends. We wanted to buy the same T-shirts but we did not have time to buy them, so I’d like to go buy again tomorrow. I ate UCLA fried noodles for the first time at lunchtime. I was surprised that the amount was large, but it was delicious. In the afternoon class, we talked about leadership and learned how to do presentation. It was a lot of fun to talk about how to deal with it although I was nervous. After that all the classmates drew a portrait. I am good at drawing pictures, so I enjoyed myself. Although I could not understand many things, I want to understand little by little when I give some questions to student leaders and my members. (Y.S.H1)
On 8th August, today is the 4th day of our UCLA program. We were able to get used to American people, American culture, and UCLA gradually.
In the morning, I woke up at 6:30 and I prepared for today’s study. After that I had breakfast with my friends after we went to Rieber VISTA. Today’s schedule is training with student leaders at the class. We are taught English by a teacher every day, and his name is Patryk. He is a good teacher because he makes us learn English with fun. The first lesson is “The picture about the future” and “Jobs & talents”. In “The picture about the future”, we drew picture about the future. We could draw themselves or the world after 10 years or more. After we finished, we shared the pictures in our groups.In “Jobs & talents”, we ranked the 5 jobs and discussed the reason why we chose. The next lesson is discussing confidence. Student leaders asked us,”How can you develop confidence?”, so I answered “I can practice a lot in order to be more confident.” After finished morning lesson, my friends and I went to the dining hall and we had a lunch. Also, we went the Bookstore and my friend bought her friend’s souvenir. The afternoon lesson is “Presentation method” and “Leadership Quality Ranking”. In “Presentation method”, first we watched a movie. The movie taught us things we need to be careful in presentations such as eye contact, your palms, posture and smile, gestures, and nod after key ideas. I thought that they were helpful. In “Leadership Quality Ranking”, we answered a questionnaire about the leadership. After that, we talked to team members and gave some advice. This lesson was so difficult for me, but I understood my strong points and weak points. So I was happy. Today, I kept sitting on the chair and listening to the Patryk’s lesson. I’m very tired but it was a fulfilling day. I would like to be satisfied again tomorrow. (A.K. H1)
